It is traditional in Korean culture for a girl to receive twenty roses on May 16th of the year when she turns twenty. Although it is unclear how this tradition began, the twenty roses signify the wish to celebrate the passion, dreams, hopes, and love that await the girl in her future life as a woman. However, no matter how much we might want to celebrate these things, they might be impeded or unfulfilled for many reasons as she journeys through life. "Re-roses" is a series of digital photos that feature the entire life span of roses from bloom to wilting by disassembling roses into pieces and restructuring these pieces into twenty unique roses. This represents the various stages of a woman’s life and portrays the idea that, although a woman’s life may not retain the perfect beauty of a freshly bloomed rose, it can be restored and reconstructed to define its own unique levels of splendor.
